The stamp shows an outline
map of Russia marking the 23rd Communist Party Congress and
commemorating increased production through Five Year Plans.

The stamp depicts Yakov
Sverdlov,
Vladimir Lenin, and Felix Dzerzhinski pouring over a map of Petrograd
(St. Petersburg) in the painting,
"On the Eve of the Storm," by V. V. Pimenov. Thank you
Dr. Mitia Frumin for information on the stamp.

The map on the stamp
issued in 1947 to mark the 10th anniversary of the Moscow-Volga Canal
shows the canal. The canal is about 80 miles long from the Volga to
Moscow, and there 11 locks numbered on the stamp.
