Lázaro
Luís does not seem to be a well known cartographer, but he produced
several very attractive maps. The designs of the souvenir sheet from
Macau and the stamp from The Gambia are based on the map of Great
Britain, Europe and Northwest Africa from his manuscript atlas of 1563,
Portugaliae Monumenta Cartographica. The original atlas is
in the Lisbon Academy of Science.
The stamp
from Gambia shows a picture of Săo Jorge El Mina, a fortress built by
the Portuguese on the coast of Africa in 1482.
