William Faden, 1806
To celebrate the bicentennial of the birth of
Simón Bolívar Venezuela issued a large souvenir sheet with a map of
Jamaica and five stamps. Three of the stamps feature pictures of
Bolívar, Pedro Luis Brión and Alexandre Sabes Petión, all of whom
fought for South American independence. Two additional stamps include
parts of the map of Jamaica which is the background of the souvenir
sheet.
The map is identified as a portion of the Spherical
Chart of the Sea of the Antilles by William Faden, 1806 in Scott Stamp
Monthly 14:1(1995)27 ill. 28.
