Bahrain is an archipelago
consisting of Bahrain Islands and 30 or so smaller islands on the
southwestern coast of the Persian Gulf between the northeastern coast
of Saudi Arabia and the Qatar Peninsula. The fifteen mile long King
Fad Causeway links Bahrain to Saudi Arabia. It has been ruled by emirs
of the Khalifah family since 1783. In 1971 it became independent. Emir
Isa ibn Sulman al-Khalifa appears in the upper left hand corner of the
stamp, with an outline map of Bahrain.
