Four Gospels
The miniature from a
manuscript of the four Gospels shows the apostle John at the Cave of
the Apocalypse dictating to Prochorus.
Prochorus was one of the seven worthies chosen to care
for the needs of the Hellenistic Jewish Christians in Acts 6:3.
Tradition suggests that he was the scribe to whom the Apostle John
dictated the Fourth Gospel. In 96 St. John was exiled to the island of
Patmos. There he lived in a cave where he received and dictated his
revelation. This cave is knows as the “Cave of the Apocalypse.“
