Ecuador 1141

     The Ecuadoran postal service describes this map as one made by Fr. Samuel Fritz who mapped the territory on the upper Marañon between Peru and Quito. The map was first printed in 1707 and later a revised version was included in Condamine's report of his expedition published in Paris in 1745. However, the map is not by Fr. Fritz, but rather by Charles Marie de La Condamine on the basis of charts which he drew during his voyage to Peru. (See the map below the stamp.)
