The Theater of War ~ 1776

The map is adapted from The Theater of War in America with the roads and a Table of Distances, included in An American Atlas, published by Robert Sayer and John Bennett, London, 1776. The detail of the map was taken from A Map of the British and French Dominions in North America..., London, 1775, by Dr. John Mitchell.
The design appears on stamps of both the United States and Canada which accounts for the large part of Canada which is included. Bernard Reilander, the designer worked from a reproduction of the original map which appeared in the 1975 edition of the Rand McNally United States Road Atlas.
