The Antarctic Treaty ~ 1971
The Treaty of 1961
includes Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Chile, the French Republic,
Japan, New Zealand, Norway, the Union of South Africa, the Union of
Soviet Socialist Republics, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and
Northern Ireland, and the United States. It provides that the
Antarctic continent shall be used for peaceful purposes only.
The Theater of War ~ 1776
The map
is adapted from The Theater of War in America with the roads and a
Table of Distances, included in An American Atlas,
published by Robert Sayer and John Bennett, London, 1776. The detail
of the map was taken from A Map of the British and French Dominions
in North America..., London, 1775, by Dr. John Mitchell.
The design appears on stamps of both the United States
and Canada which accounts for the large part of Canada which is
included. Bernard Reilander, the designer worked from a reproduction
of the original map which appeared in the 1975 edition of the Rand
McNally United States Road Atlas.
Plane and Globe
Both this stamp and
C90 have globes in the mouths of their jet engines. C90 also has a
stylized American flag.
