Sindbad's Voyage from Muscat to Canton
The stories of Sindbad the
Sailor are a part of the The Arabian Nights or A
Thousand and One Nights (Alf Layla wa Layla). They are
an anthology of stories of Arabian seafarers between the 8th and 11th
centuries. The first identifiable version of The Arabian Nights
is a Persian book called Hazar Aftanah (A Thousand Legends)
translated into Arabic about 850
c.e.
In 1981 Oman issued a set of stamps
commemorating Sindbad's voyage from Arabia to Cathy. One of the stamps
has a modern map showing the route from Muscat to Canton.
