The inscription at the bottom of the souvenir
sheet reads, “Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson watching Brunigline Train
(built 1888) descending from the Brunig Pass Towards Meiringen”.
Meiringen is in central Switzerland.
Holmes and Watson spent the night of May 3, 1891 at the
Englischer Hof, run by Peter Steiler, in Meiringen on their flight
from Professor Moriarty (in the Final Problem). The next day Holmes
and Moriarty met at the Reichenbach Falls where both were supposed to
have died.
