Sancho Ramirez of Aragon
Sancho I was king of
Aragon from 1063 to 1094, and of Navarre from 1076 to 1094. He was the
son of Ramiro I of Aragon and Gisberga (Ermesinde) of Bigorre. He
fought against the Moors and died in the siege of Huesca.
The stamp was issued in 1994 to mark the ninth
centenary of the death of Sancho of Aragon. The manuscript in the
background is from the Fuero de Jaca, the Charter of Jaca given in
1077 by Sancho I which converted the Villa of Jaca into a city.
