In 1941 Switzerland issued two stamps to mark the 650th anniversary of
Swiss independence. The design on the low value stamp includes a map
of Lake Lucerne or the Lake of the Four Cantons, and the arms of
Switzerland on the left, Schwyz on the upper right, and Uri, lower
right. The device at the bottom center of the stamp has the arms of
the Cantons of Obwalden on the left and that of Underwalden on the
right.
This league was the foundation of the Swiss Confederation which now
includes twenty-two Cantons or states.
