Ivory Coast 950
In 1993 Ivory Coast issued a map stamp to
mark the 33rd anniversary of independence. The map is identified with
Développment minier, which indicates either “mining
development” in general, or a connection with “SODEMI” = Société pour le
Développment Minier, the "Society for the Development of Mining."
I believe the connection is with the latter because on the map two
locations are marked with yellow stars and identified as “SMI” =
Société des Mines, 90 miles south of Man on the west, and “SOMIAF”
= Société des Mines d’Afema, on the east. Both of these are
foreign companies in joint ventures with “SODEMI.”
