In 1947 Honduras issued a set of two stamps
with the same design to honor the First International Conference of
Archaeology of the Caribbean, which was held in Tegucigalpa in 1946.
The design features a map of Honduras and surrounding
countries, ancient monuments, a monumental turle and a conference
badge, which I think is a Mayan ball court marker
The carved standing stone on the left of the stamp is
Stele C at Copán where the Maya lived from 1300
b.c. until the time of
the Spanish conquest.
