Between 1455 and 1461 in
Ferrara Taddeo Crivelli (1425-1479) and Franco Dei Russi (active
1453-1482) and others illuminated a Bible in two full-folio volumes
for Duke Borso D'Este; the text was written by Pietro Paolo Marone.
The Bible is preserved in the Biblioteca Estense e Universitaria,
Modena, Italy (MS Lat. 422-423). 1300 pages are covered with rich
illuminations that alone cost almost 5000 lire at the time.
The stamp, a miniature from La Bibbia di Borso
d'Este, shows St. Paul on a ship. The stamp was issued in 1961 to
commemorate the 1900th anniversary of St. Paul's arrival in Rome.
