The stamp issued by Chile in 1968
commemorates centenaries of five towns on the island of Chiloé with a
map: Chonchi (1768), Tenaun (1567), Castro (1567), Chacao (1568) and
Ancud (1768). At the top of the stamp part of the province of
Llanquihue is delineated and the town of Pargua is located. Llanquihue
was absorbed by the island province of Chiloé in 1928. At the bottom
of the stamp a portion of Chiloé is delineated and the towns of Ancud
and Chacao are located. A ferry connects Pargua and Chacao.
The map shows an area about two-thirds of the way south
in Chile on the Pacific coast.
