The stamp displays the
central panel of a mosaic found in the synagogue at Beth Alpha. The
mosaic is dated, by an inscription on the mosaic floor, to the reign
of Justinian (518-527 a.d.).
The zodiac circle surrounds the chariot of the sun drawn by
four horses. The zodiac is divided into four seasons. The original
kept Scorpio and Libra together, and Virgo, Leo, Cancer and Gemini
together. Each month has an astrological sign similar to those used
today.
