The set of four stamps issued in 1998 by
Albania features two codices, Codex Purpureus Beratinus and
Codex Aureus Anthimi.
Codex Purpureus Beratinus: First half of the 6th
century, includes Matthew and Mark in 190 folios. This manuscript is
shown on the 30 Leke stamp. This page is also shown as the label on
Albania 2552.
Codex Aureus Anthim: Ninth century, named for
the bishop of the metropolitan church of Berat, Anthimis Alexoudes,
contains all four gospels in 420 folios. This manuscript is shown on
the other two stamps. It is one of the four oldest codices in the
world.

After a long period during which the manuscripts were
thought to have been lost, both codices were found and turned over the
the National Archives in 1971.
