The first triangular postal map stamp
was issued in 1894 by Liberia. The central design is a female figure
representing "Commerce," holding a caduceus, the astrological symbol
for
commerce, on the left are containers of trade goods and a globe showing the continent
of Africa, on the right are a palm tree, a canoe with Krumen,
members of an indigeneous tribe, a box of trade goods, and a
ribbon with the Liberian motto, "The Love of Liberty Brought Us Here".
