The Three Gorges Project on the Yangtze River
began in 1993 and is supposed to be completed in 2009. Its purposes
are flood control, power generation, navigation, and water for
consumption.
The grey line at the top of the sheet is the Yellow
River. The red star is Beijing, the capital of China. The grey line at the bottom
of the souvenir sheet represents the Yangtze River. The Three Gorges dam is
about where the stamp covers the river. The other grey and brown lines represent other rivers, canals
and waterways in China. The light blue on the left of the sheet is the
Yellow Sea.
