published in 1893.
A Study in Scarlet

Doyle published his
first story about Sherlock Holmes, A Study in Scarlet, in 1887,
although the action takes place in 1881. It was in this story that
Holmes identifies himself as world's first "consulting detective."

Holmes brother Mycroft
was introduced in this story. Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes appear
