Mail Boat "Hiorten"

Up Catalog

Germany 2019

Postal services between Ystad, Sweden and Stralsund on the north German coast were established in the 17th century. The stamp issued in 1998 by Germany commemorates the yacht or mail packed Hiorten which sailed between the two towns between 1692 and 1702.
Ystad is at the top of the stamp and Stralsund in the lower left corner. The island of Rügen is just off the coast from Stralsund. The stamp was issued to mark “Stamp Day.”
There is an error on the stamp. The wind which blows from the rear and fills the sails to drive the ship forward also blows from the rear to blow the flags to the rear.
