Up Catalog

In 2004 Liechtenstein issued a map stamp to recognize "Digitale Palimpsest-forschung," Digital Palimpsest Research. A palimpsest is an old parchment manuscript from which the text has been scraped so it can be used again for another manuscript. This project began in 2001 and involved 26 European countries. Activities involved in the creation of a checklist of manuscripts, digitization and electronic archiving of selected palimpsests, education and training and publication.
The stamp issued by Liechtenstein features the "project logo" of the project, a map of Europe cut out of an ancient manuscript. The map is not intended to be a precise map of the area.
