The International Telecommunication Union has
its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. It was founded in Paris,
France in 1865 as the International Telegraph Union. It is the world’s
oldest international organization. It became an agency of the United
Nations in 1947.
In 1965 Switzerland issued this stamp to commemorate
the centenary of the Union. The design shows a world map with the
countries connected by communications links.
