Germany issued a stamp in 1981 to commemorate
the Von Neumayer Polar Research Station. The stamp has a picture of
the Station and a map showing its location. But the Station is not at
the location shown on the map. The station was intended to be located
on the Ronne-Filchner Ice Shelf in 1981 (the location shown on the
map), but it was determined that the location was “unstable,” so the
station was located on the Ekstroem Ice Shelf (the location shown on
the map below).
Compare the location shown on the small map
on the stamp (the red dot) with the location indicated on the map
below.
