Italy 834a
To mark the state visit of President Giovanni
Gronchi to Peru, Argentina and Uruguay in 1961 Italy issued a set of
three stamps with a similar map design. The stamp issued for Peru was
discovered to have gotten Peru's border with Ecuador wrong. The stamp
was withdrawn and reissued in a violet black color.
Some of the rose-lilac errors were sold of
affixed to covers before the order of withdrawal reached them. They
were then directed to cover the errors with the corrected version, so
there are covers with both the correct and incorrect stamps.
