Pitcairn Islands 33
There are two errors on
the stamp issued in 1961 by the Pitcairn Islands. The first is that
while Norfolk Island (34.6 acres) is slightly smaller than Pitcairn
Island (47 acres), on the stamp it is larger by 25%. The second error
is that Norfolk Island has been rotated to the east about 5°. It would
appear that if Norfolk had been pictured 20-25% smaller, it would have
fit the available space without having to be twisted.
In addition Sir Dudley Stamp has criticized the shape
of Pitcairn Island as "largely fictitious," and the relief mapping as
"entirely fanciful."
