Liberia 233
Issued in 1928, this stamp highlights the African continent
on a 10° grid system. The map shows the silhouette of Liberia on the west
coast of Africa and six major rivers, the Senegal, Niger, Nile, Congo,
Zambezi and the Orange River. The Orange River is the largest river in
South Africa.
Also shown are Lakes Chad, Victoria, Rudolf
and Nyasa, and the island of Socotra off the tip of Cape Guardaful
south of Saudi Arabia and the island of Madagascar.
A careful examination of the map shows
the Orange River flowing into the Indian Ocean rather than the
Atlantic Ocean.
The stamp is shown on piece with a German Seapost
cancel.
The 15 cent value (Scott 235) also has the error.
