Newfoundland 86
On this stamp issued by Newfoundland in 1908
the peninsula of Avalon appears to be separate from Newfoundland
proper. Although it is difficult to see the road that connects the two
appears as a bridge between them. Walter Klinefelter writes, "...since
the same had been done previously by a supposedly reliable
cartographer who delineated Newfoundland on a much larger scale, it is
apparent that the designer merely copied a mistake."
The Carto-Philatelist
2:1(1956)11.
The neck of land
connecting Avalon to Newfoundland can be clearly seen in this stamp
issued in 1928, and again in 1931.

downloaded from the Canadian postal
