Antigua 198
The map of Barbuda on the
1967 stamp issued by Antigua is from the Atlas Maior sive
cosmographiae Blaviana of Johannes Blaeu in published in Amsterdam
in 1665. A comparison of
the shape of the island in the atlas with that on the stamp confirms
that identity. The stamps were issued to commemorate the 300th
anniversary of the settlement of Barbuda.
The coordinates of Barbuda are 17°35'N and 61°49'W,
while the latitude line on the stamp, 17°35'N, does not touch the
island, as it should.
On the stamp issued by
Barbuda in 1968, the latitude line, 17°35'N, clearly cuts through the
island. The shape of the island on this stamp is also much more
accurate.
