Tonga issued a set of four stamps in 1987 to commemorate the second voyage of Dumont d'Urville (1790-1842) to the South Pacific in 1837-1840. One of the stamps features a map, Carte des Isles des Amis. The map on the stamp is oriented to the left with Tongatapu and Eua on the right. The ship in the center of the map may be d'Uriville's ship the Astrolabe.

     The low value in the set has a portrait of d'Urville based on a lithograph by Alfred-Leon Lemercier.
