Canada 274
In 1947 Canada commemorated the centenary of the birth of Alexander
Graham Bell with a stamp focused on his invention of the telephone.
The design shows a winged female figure standing on a globe showing a
map of North America. Bell was born in Scotland, and emigrated to
Canada. He invented the telephone during a visit to his parents’ home
in Tutela Heights, Canada in 1874. The first successful demonstration
of the telephone was over a telegraph wire between Brantford and
Paris, Ontario.
